Where we are
B.F. Plastics, Inc. is located in North Lawrence Ohio, just South of Cleveland
and West of Canton and Massillon in Northeast Ohio.
History
Bob Fichter founded B. F. Plastics in
1953. The name was derived from his initials B.F. Originally the
company, which consisted of Bob and his wife Marilyn, sold plastic
engraved signs. Although there were only a small number of engravers in
Ohio at the time, word soon got around that B. F. Plastics carried a large
stock of Norplex Phenolic (Formica) and several of the other engravers began
to buy material from B. F. For many years B. F. Plastics operated as an
engraving company and as a supplier, offering other engravers not only Phenolic engraving material but also badge findings, tapes and nameplate
holders.
In 1970, Bob's son Jim began to work full time for the company as an
engraver. In 1973 Jim bought the company from his father and continued to
operate as both an engraver and supplier. In the late 1970's, Jim
expanded the selection of nameplate holders and added E-Z-Grav and
Scott-Ply to the products offered to other engravers. In the early
1980's, Jim continued to expand the product line, and in 1983 became a
distributor for Rowmark engraving materials.
As the supply side of the business continued to grow, it became evident
that by operating as a supplier and engraver, B. F. was competing
for sign work with the engraving customers. A choice had to be made and
in 1985 Jim decided that B.F. Plastics would no longer do engraving and
would operate only as a supplier. Today, B.F. Plastics, Inc. is one of
the largest suppliers for engraving materials and supplies in the United
States.
